With thousands of inspiring volunteers keen to share their stories virtually and lots of new resources to help Primary Futures schools plan interactive online sessions, it’s not surprising that there are so many exciting activities coming up! Get inspired by your fellow teachers and find out about opportunities to help motivate your pupils and bring learning to life this autumn term.
What’s coming up? A few highlights of virtual activities…
- A school in Derby is planning two STEM days as part of the Our Future Derby project, recruiting passionate role models talking about their jobs in science, tech, engineering and maths.
- In Lincolnshire we’re excited to see a “Thanking Key Workers” event which aims to develop children’s understanding of essential workers and why they have been so instrumental during the pandemic.
- Greenwood Academies Trust in Nottingham is putting on a whole week of virtual career-related learning, with daily sessions with a range of volunteers aiming to challenge stereotypes, raise aspirations and reassure children during this uncertain time.
Further activities include aspirations and enterprise days, a debating activity, Classroom Chats and much more. Lots of school are using our NHS pre-recorded Classroom Chat, which explores the different jobs in healthcare and allows children to meet inspiring role models from the sector. Access the chat and accompanying resource.
We know that virtual activities with volunteers are new to many teachers, so we have produced several resources to help you plan. Activity and CPD opportunities
You can connect with volunteers from the aviation sector, allowing children to meet a diverse range of inspiring role models from the industry and learn about a variety of interesting jobs. While the aviation industry is facing challenges due to Covid-19, it remains a sector with vast opportunities and passionate employees willing to share their career paths and experiences and highlight the importance of STEM subjects. Search for our aviation volunteers on the portal to plan your virtual session.
We recently held our first info webinar of the academic year to give teachers insight into Primary Futures, our aims and impact and how to get involved. Don’t worry if you missed it; you can register for one of the upcoming info webinars here. We also hosted a CPD session for Cornwall teachers, which you can view here.
Find out how to run a virtual session in our next CPD on 7th October.
