With thousands of inspiring volunteers keen to share their stories virtually and lots of new resources to help Inspiring the Future schools plan interactive online sessions, it’s not surprising that there are so many exciting activities coming up! Get inspired by your fellow teachers and find out about opportunities to help motivate your students this autumn term and provide them with virtual experiences of the world of work.
What’s coming up? A few highlights of virtual activities…
- Schools in Reading and Staffordshire are planning talks with passionate NHS workers.
- Students are preparing for a mock interview session in Birmingham.
- A Sutton school is putting on lunchtime webinars on a range of topics related to the curriculum.
- In Bracknell Forest teachers are organising an innovative virtual speed networking session, with small groups of students moving around the classroom to meet different volunteers via school devices.
Further activities include careers advice and insight talks, subject-focused sessions, mentor meetings and much more. Lots of school are also using our NHS pre-recorded Careers Chat, which explores the different roles in healthcare and allows young people to meet inspiring role models from the sector.
We know that virtual activities are new to many teachers and careers staff, so we have produced several resources to help you plan. Find guidance on activity types, different tech platforms, safeguarding, contacting volunteers and more. Log into your portal and head to our resources on the homepage.
We can’t wait to hear about all these upcoming events from schools and volunteers. If you’re thinking of planning a virtual activity with our volunteers and would like some support, please do get in touch with our schools team. Remember to sign up for free if you’re not already an Inspiring the Future school!

Campaigns and CPD opportunities
Last month we launched our Inspiring the Future Maritime campaign with Maritime UK. We now have maritime volunteers from an array of different occupations ready and waiting on the platform, from Marine Sales Engineers, to Crew Health Programme Directors and even Harbour Masters. Start planning your maritime careers session today and choose from our fantastic line up of volunteers. The upcoming Maritime UK Week (12-18 October) will shine a spotlight on the UK’s maritime sector. There will be plenty of activities for schools to get involved in, from a virtual careers fair for young people aged 11 – 22, virtual tours showing a sneak peek behind the scenes of maritime sites – boats, ships and ports, to special exhibitions from maritime museums and historic sites.
On 15th September we held our first info webinar of the academic year, to give teachers an insight into Inspiring the Future, our aims and impact and how to get involved.
