A national campaign is being launched to encourage young people to learn languages at school and understand how language skills impact on their job prospects.
Inspiring the Future Languages Focus Week is taking place 22-26 September 2014 and seeks to get 100s of schools and employers involved across England.
Nick Chambers, from charity the Education and Employers Taskforce which administers Inspiring the Future, says:
“We have hundreds of volunteers using their language skills in an impressive range of jobs in sectors including the media, engineering and finance. We want to get them into schools at the beginning of the new school year to motivate pupils and show them the relevance of language learning for their future careers”.
The Inspiring the Future Languages Focus Week is being promoted by Speak to the Future, with partners including the British Council taking a lead role in organising activities which will include high profile media and stakeholder events culminating in the European Day of Languages on 26 September.
Schools wishing to find a speaker and volunteers wishing to sign up can do so online.
