The response to Primary Futures from Wakefield primary schools has been phenomenal. Since the initial launch of Inspiring Wakefield at South Parade, 16 events have taken place in schools across Wakefield. Another eight events are planned for 2018/19.
Each event at a primary school in Wakefield is unique and personal to the children, staff and volunteers involved. What all events have in common is the positive and amazed reaction from everyone who takes part.
In the first half of the summer term, Primary Futures events took place at Pinders Primary School, Ackton Pastures Primary Academy, Normanton Junior Academy, and Streethouse Junior, Infant and Nursery School. The aim of each event was to raise the children’s aspirations by helping them understand the link between learning and their futures. At each event children were inspired by a diverse range of volunteers speaking about the jobs they love.
Pinders Primary School want to extend “A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who came into Year 1 today as part of our aspirations topic… the children were certainly inspired!” and commented “Year 5 have had a wonderful morning discussing our future aspirations with some amazing volunteers, who came to tell us about their professions.”
Ackton Pastures Primary School commented:
“Wren class are having a fantastic day along with all the children in Ackton Pastures! We have lots of visitors in school telling us all about their careers as part of the Primary Futures initiative!”
Meryl White, who attended Normanton Junior School as a volunteer, said: “Fantastic morning with Primary Futures event with lovely children and staff. Delighted to support raising aspirations.”
In the second half of the summer term Primary Futures will be visiting Lawefield Primary, Altofts Primary and Upton Primary. A number events are being coordinated for the next academic year.
